Nuneaton Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary - Animal Sanctuary - About Us

In June 2000, an injured swan was taken to a vet and after treatment it needed 10 days of rest and further medication, but there was now where in the area to take him so it got put to sleep. This is when the decision was made to set up Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary.

In February 2001, the Warwickshire wildlife sanctuary opened its doors to wildlife casualties, and our very first casualties was a swan that had crash landed on the M6, thankfully only in shock and no permanent injury so was released successfully.

In 5 years we have had over 320 swans, come in to our care. Some were young, some were just shocked but a lot of them had been purposely hurt by human beings, either shot wounds, fishing line/hooks, etc. This is something we have to face each and every week, not just with swans but a lot of wildlife.

September 2001, came our first domestic rabbit. Rosie was a black and white Dutch rabbit, if we didn’t take Rosie in the owners threatened to release her to the wild, where she wouldn’t survive. This was the first of many domestic pet we have taken in.

In November 2006, the sanctuary became a registered charity under the name Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, registered charity number 1116741.

There wouldn't be an "US" without the Oakfield Veterinary Group.

We are extremely grateful for all the help and support that the vets and nurses give us at Oakfield Vets.

With out the help and support they offer us, we could not provide or help as many animals as we do.

They treat all wildlife we have free of charge and offer us a 25% discount on all domestic animals that we have got in our care that need medical attention.

They give us the medication we require to help all our casualties free of charge which as a charity helps us tremendously.

Vist them at any of their three locations. If you need more infomation visit their webpage:
